...And we're back!
As promised, today I'll be posting a couple interesting images of local interest. First up, here are a few images from an amateur photo album from around the turn of the century.
Although the creator of the album remains unknown, they did leave us a little information about the album -- the first page has a note:
"Pictures taken in Boston, New York, Wilmington, NC, Charleston, Spartanburg and Glenn Springs, SC
During trip from November 27th 1901 to January 21st 1902 [.]"
So there you go. What we can tell about this person is that they had the means to take such a trip and "immortalize" it in the photographic medium. It also appears that the trip concluded in South Carolina, so perhaps they were from here.
The album contains a number of great images from the places mentioned above. My personal favorite is of New York (below, left).
A close second for me, is an image of Boston's South Station (not included), a place I know well and remains the same to this day.
And now for something really nice:
Above is a fantastic panoramic image of downtown Spartanburg. The photographer, as noted in the annotation (enhanced, below) on the far left of the photo, has captured the 27th Division U.S.A. marching in the 3rd Liberty Loan Parade. The 27th Division (originally the New York State National Guard) shipped out to Europe on April 20, 1918 and fought alongside British and American forces until the end of the war.
Look closely at the enhanced image below and you will see the twin towers of Wofford's Old Main building on the horizon.
